Dean Smith

Mr. Smith grew up in Prosper, Texas. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Mays Business School at Texas A&M University. After graduating, Mr. Smith returned home to the Dallas area to attend Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law. During his time there, Mr. Smith honed his skills as an advocate by participating on SMU’s San Diego Mock Trial Team, helping his team achieve an undefeated record in his first competition and reaching the semifinals in his last year. In addition, Mr. Smith served as a mentor to incoming law students and Articles Editor for the International Law Review Association Journal.

Prior to joining the Bergquist Law Firm, Mr. Smith worked as a law clerk for a Dallas-based personal injury and social security disability firm. Here, Mr. Smith provided clients with hands on service to ensure they were best prepared for their day in court and had a firm understanding of the legal process. Mr. Smith also clerked at a Dallas-based bankruptcy and litigation firm, where he assisted on complex commercial litigation and Chapter 7, 9, 11, and 13 bankruptcies.

Mr. Smith has also worked at the Deason Criminal Justice Reform Center, where he utilized data-driven research to advocate for innovative criminal justice reform. Additionally, he has volunteered at the Texas Humane Legislation Network, where he helped advocate for reformation of animal cruelty laws in Texas.

Mr. Smith is based in our Dallas office.
