Matthew Birdwell

Matthew Birdwell is the managing attorney for the Dallas office of Bergquist Law Firm. While at BLF, Mr. Birdwell’s knowledge and aggressive approach towards insurance companies, has resulted in his clients and their families amassing substantial settlements and recoveries.

Mr. Birdwell was born in Texas, and calls San Antonio home, despite growing up in various cities across the Texas, Florida, and Colorado. As the son of an Air Force veteran, Mr. Birdwell was raised with the cornerstone values of hard work, discipline, and integrity, which serves as the pillars for his own legal practice. In 2013, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Government from The University of Texas at Austin. Upon graduating UT with his twin brother, Mr. Birdwell and his brother became the first members of their family to graduate from a four-year university.

After UT, Mr. Birdwell returned home to San Antonio to attend St. Mary’s School of Law, where he received a Doctorate of Jurisprudence. While at St. Mary’s, Mr. Birdwell was a stand-out advocate on St. Mary’s National Mock Trial team, earning honors of “St. Mary’s School of Law Most Outstanding Mock Trial Award,” and induction into The Order of Barristers – an honor limited to the graduating law students around the United States who achieve excellence in trial advocacy, oral advocacy, and brief writing.

While representing plaintiffs, Mr. Birdwell has years of experience litigating a variety of civil and business matters, including breaches of contract, motor vehicle accidents, commercial cases, premises liability, deceptive trade practices, and wrongful death.

Prior to joining BLF, he worked as a clerk for the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office and the Texas Workforce Commission. While working for the District Attorney, Mr. Birdwell assisted in prosecuting a variety of serious felony cases, including capital murder, aggravated sexual assault, and aggravated robbery. At TWC, Mr. Birdwell wrote legal briefs, which incorporated the legal principles and precedents of Texas employment law, to assist the Commissioners with their rulings on claimants’ appeals of prior unemployment benefits determinations.

Mr. Birdwell is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, and the State Bar of Texas. Mr. Birdwell is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas.
